Sequa Donates $EC100, 000 to Soufriere Foundation Project

The EU funded project Sequa gGmbH is currently implementing the Economic Diversification and Private Sector Development Programme in St Lucia and to date; many local business initiatives continue to benefit from the fund.  The project’s overall objective is to improve the competitiveness of St. Lucia’s economy and to integrate the country into the regional and global economy by comprehensively developing its private sector.

One beneficiary of the Sequa project is the Tet Paul Nature Trail in Soufriere. Sequa is collaborating with the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) to provide support for the development and refurbishment of the Tet Paul Nature Trail.  As a non profit organization, the Soufriere Foundation engages in several social and eco tourism community projects and also serves as a donor agency for local assistance.  The Soufriere Foundation employs 74 people.

On Wednesday September 1st 2010 the two entities marked a milestone in their partnership. A ceremony took place at the Tet Paul Nature Trail car park in Chateau Belair, Soufriere, to commemorate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sequa gGmbH and the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation.

Nestled in the Piton management area, the Tet Paul Heritage Trail represents the true essence of community tourism and is beginning to grow in popularity as the leader of St. Lucia’s eco-tourism experiences.

The project activities will include:

  • Refurbishment and reinforcing of foot paths of the Tet Paul Trail
  • Improvement of signage
  • Marketing of the site
  • Development of a Business Plan
  • Capacity Building

The project will be implemented until the end of 2010. Sequa gGmbH has secured the sum of EC $100,000 to support this initiative.
