The radio station project which begun over four years ago is a joint venture funded by the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). During an interview with the press, Marketing and Public Relations Officer of the SDRF, Mr. Malcolm Mathurin, said that, “We are happy to see that the radio station is finally on air and we are grateful for the volunteer announcers who have come aboard to make it happen.”

It is hoped that the radio station will be used as a medium by which the residents can chart the direction of the development process and educate themselves. In order to allow them the opportunity to do so, the programme content includes talk shows; social, development and educational programmes. As a community radio station, 88.5 Soufriere FM is limited to providing coverage to geographic Soufriere. Presently, all areas of the district receive excellent coverage.

“The road to this point has been has not been easy, we experienced and overcame many challenges, we do anticipate a few more, both technically and with our announcers but we will continue to improve as we tweak our equipment and train our volunteers” says Radio Consultant, Mr. Brandon Mc Lean.

88.5 Soufriere FM is organising a Square Jam for Saturday 18th September to introduce its the radio personalities to the people of Soufriere. The event will feature entertainment from prominent local artist and lots of giveaways.
